In this series, we will cover some of the first 60 days of integrating social media into your overall business strategy.
On Day Six, we got you started reading RSS feeds. We even seeded your Google Reader with five smart blogs to subscribe to (six if you included my RSS feed
)
As we look over our first week together, notice a few things:
- We're still in practice mode. We haven't launched your blog yet. We've still got a week before your "soft and silent" launch. Getting used to the writing tool (your blog software) and the reading tool (Google Reader) are paramount to your long-term success.
- We've extended your ears. Great conversations begin with listening. By subscribing to blogs in your field and on your fringe, you'll better discern the culture of the conversation and who's worth listening to (reading).
- We have yet to discuss Twitter and Facebook (and won't for several more days). There are reasons for this timing, and much of it has to do with creating inventory of your thoughts and practices on your blog.
This day is a day for homework, and remember – first things first – part of your assignment is to write at least one practice blog post (and publish it on the site).
Also, as part of your homework – I'd like you read a few pieces I've done to help you along your blogging journey:
- Give Them Eye Rests
- What Should I Write About? Listen to Your Day
- One Post – One Point: The Worksheet
- Do You Sound Like Your Blog?
- Less is More in Writing Blog Posts
- Your Blogging Territories
- Discovery Along the Blogging Path
- Feed Reading Habit: Skim, Scan, Save
- Can You See the Destination?
Feel free to try out some of the stuff you learn from the above posts (I'm hoping you give the Discovery Along the Blogging Path a try).
