There's some talk around Des Moines Social Media folks wondering when Foursqaure is coming to town. Nathan T Wright has thrown down the gauntlet and asked for the DSM crowd to video a response to his clarion call for Foursquare's arrival.
I'm a member of Foursquare, a service that I can use when I travel to Omaha (January), Honolulu (January), Chicago (January), Portland (February), St. Louis (February), … but not at home.
In short, Foursquare is a Location Based Social Network that might serve in several capacities:
- Marketing/Sales/PR – Businesses can offer coupons, discounts, reward and referral programs..
- Community Building – Because it's a location-based service, users can more easily meet face-to-face at any given moment
- Gaming – Users score points with every check-in. Now to the new
user, this may not mean much but it will as you start to use the
service (if it comes to Des Moines) - Narcissism – It happens. The most frequent visitor to certain locations can become "FourSquare Mayor" of that location — and even become a celebrity of sorts (not that I'm into such things)
What's your take? Shoot a video and let us know.
