Whoever is behind the decision to limit followers on Twitter should be fired.
I’ve had a couple of dozen people follow me in the last few days. I’d take a (very) good guess that 2 or 3 are spammers, 5 or 6 are just following a lot of influentials (and in my case a mini-influential), and 15-20 are legitimate Tweeple who value or agree with what I do or have to say and want to connect.
There’s a problem. I already follow/connect with 2,000 people (and have close to 1,600 following me). For me to follow anyone else — I’d have to cut off someone.
A) I don’t have the time to go through the list and make that decision
B) I wouldn’t have followed/connected with them if I ever thought I’d undo the follow
C) I SHOULDN’T BE ASKED QUIT PEOPLE OR THROW THEM AWAY BECAUSE OF TWITTER’S INABILITY OR LACK OF DESIRE.
- Anyone who I follow on Twitter but is also on FriendFeed – I’m going to have to unfollow you on Twitter and follow you only on FriendFeed. (This is actually good for me – because I get to follow all of you, not just your Twitter.
- I am going to stop posting on Twitter (until and unless they fix this) – so you may as well not expect updates from me. For you sake, please unsubscribe from me so you won’t face the same problem I have before me.
- I will subscribe to everyone who follows me, because I know the smart Twitterers are also on FriendFeed.
- I’m going to Plurk.
I’ve written to Twitter. I’ve received form letters in response. I’ve offered to pay. Same form letter comes back. I didn’t once complain about Twitters server shortcomings when that was a popular going on. That was a machine thing. This is a people thing. I liked Twitter when they had tech problems. Now, they have people problems.
I used to like Twitter though:
– Twitter as a Business App? Create a Plugin Panel
– Twitter + Yahoo Pipes = Signal
– Why I Use Twitter – Increase Infosumption Without a Headache
– Twittered Belief Statement (and the corresponding Tweet)
UPDATE (last at 7:52 CT, 10/3): Folks I’ve had to unfollow (but will continue to follow on FriendFeed) due to Twitter’s ceiling:
-WeDoCreative (following on his FriendFeed page)
-Pistachio (following on her FriendFeed page)
-SarahInTampa (following on her FriendFeed page)
-Marc Meyer (following his FriendFeed page)
-Denise Wakeman (following her FriendFeed page)
-Loic LeMur (following his FriendFeed page)
-Amy Gahran (following her FriendFeed page)
