If, Then for the Teacher in You

Just as I believe we’re all contagious (and choose which contagion we spread)…
Just as I believe we’re all salespeople (even if it’s ourselves or our ideas)…
I also believe we are all teachers (whether as a marketer or parent, writer or educator).

This is nspired by Carl Glickman’s Leadership for Learning (via Darren Draper):

Here’s my input on this meme:

IF, as a teacher/coach:

  • I don’t simplify the complex (Simplexify?);
  • I blame my students for being closed-minded;
  • I don’t ask “What if…” more than “Who else…”;
  • I’m not willing to model best practices up front and out loud;
  • I practice reactive coaching more than preparatory training
  • I treat unequal circumstances equally;
  • I ever “master” and become all-knowing about everything;

THEN I’ve already reached my ceiling as a teacher and hope my students find a teacher still (and always) growing.

What’s on your IF__________, THEN __________ statement?

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    If, as a teacher,
    ~I am not willing to do what is in the best interest of my students, regardless what others may think
    ~I accept less than what I know is the best work my students are capable of producing
    ~I am not excited about the subject I teach, enthused to learn more about it myself
    ~I do not love the grade level I teach
    Then, I am not an effective teacher and should seek different employment.
