Lunch n Learn: The Back of the Napkin

During lunch today, several discussions about visual thinking were passed around the table. Three of us have been reading Dan Roam’s The Back of the Napkin.

During the discussion, I brought up this slide show (a ChangeThis manifesto):

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

10,5 commandments seem to be very useful in practice. Well, I’ll try to use drawings in my meetings. See how’ll it work :-)

In so glad to hear that you were talking about the book over lunch — wish I could have been there to hear your thoughts and comments. Can I join you next time? I can bring my own napkins! :-)
    Thanks,

    Hi Dan,
    Great stuff…
Have you promoted this blog on Fast Pitch!(www.fastpitchnetworking.com)? It’s an online business network that has as one of it’s features a way to promote your blog to their audience of small business owners. FP was actually just named Website of The Week by MSNBC’s ‘Your Business’ show for small business owners.
If you’re already on another network (LinkedIn, etc.) – no problem. Fast Pitch! takes a completely different approach. Compare Networks: http://www.fastpitchnetworking.com/comapre.cfm
    Keep up the good work!

    Mike,
Thanks for the suggestion. I bought the book today. I am always looking for ways to communicate new ideas more effectively and efficiently. I’m only 30 pages into it but, so far, it’s the best book I’ve read since “Made to Stick”. Especially for those situations where there seems to be a napkin available.

This book is a hot topic. During a Content Literacy class with teachers, we mentioned the book again and again. Visual Literacy is and will continue to be a hot topic. This book should and could be a text book for such a class.
Hey Dan! We’ll invite you next time and maybe have you speak over a cup of coffee. Cup will be on me |_|?

Love to join you over coffee sometime. Although I did not overtly intend the book to the educational community, I am getting a lot of feedback from teachers and education professionals at all levels… Which is exciting and gratifying!

I find it ironic that a presentation on visual thinking relies so much on text.

MIke – thank you for finding and linking to Idea Sandbox and the Post2Post Virtual Book tour with Dan Roam and The Back of the Napkin.
Dan has put together something pretty cool!
    Thanks again! – Paul
