Lunch n Learn with Creative Commons

A few weeks ago I was talking to some teachers about Creative Commons licensing. It’s a hot topic around the conversphere and in the teacher lounge. Here’s a slideshow that might help:

Textbooks Written in Manga? Learn from Johnny Bunko

I just picked up a copy of Johnny Bunko by Dan Pink. Haven’t cracked it open yet, but I caught this trailer of the book…

…and Garr Reynolds’ Johnny Bunkop prezo (learn how to PPT just by watching):

So here’s my question: When will we see textbooks in manga?

I’m confident Dan Pink’s message won’t be lost in the delivery — in fact, the message probably stands out (to the intended audience) because of the delivery.

Who’s ready to SCAMPER this idea into the classroom?

Authenticity + Consistency = Trustability

It’s become a mantra in how I coach a Thin Slice of blog reading and social media interaction.

Authenticity + Consistency = Trustability

In this information onslaught, I view part of authenticity as having a face and contact info right up front. Above the fold. Easy to find. Does it mean a site lacking a face and contact info is inauthentic? Not necessarily. However, you’ll grab my attention longer if it’s available.

In consistency, I will have more trust in a site that has more than 20 posts per month on average. Even moreso if the posts stay on topic (for the most part). Why?  Anyone can put on their Sunday best for an hour per week.

I’m not saying that if you don’t do this you become untrustworthy. What I am saying, is that you’ll earn trust and therefore become engaged more quickly by doing so.

Brunch n Learn: We Think – Together we are Smarter

Okay, I had an early lunch today. The creator, Charles Leadbeater, also has a TED talk on collaborative innovation worth a watch. Here is the We Think video

Using Zoho and Moodle Together – A Fairy Tale?

Though I’m on a bit of a blog hiatus (save for lunches and links), I’m not going to hold this one back…

I’ve been working on a few projects using Moodle (mostly TeachingSells type of stuff), setting up Interactive Learning Environments (ILE) for a few clients. Doug Mitchell and Andy Brudtkuhl are doing most of the hard (coding) work while I put up content. We’re getting very close.

One of the challenges facing us was similar to that of blogware years ago: How will I teach a new tool to folks still grappling with how to use email? Moodle is a very powerful toy – and with the power comes a hefty dashboard. All those buttons sometimes scare people (I dunno why – just is).

I’ve also been doing some project work using Zoho (love the new Zoho Invoices!). My people love working on Zoho. Quick. Easy. Compose right into Typepad.

I’m thinking to myself, "Self, if we could only find a way to have Zoho work with Moodle."

Then, Scott Weidig at VanishingPoint put it all into perspective. With his Down the Rabbit Hole… post, he shares how he’s using Zoho and Moodle together (see comments on his post for further details). He then follows it up with Oh My Alice… with further discoveries about Zoho Writer and embedding.

Zomoodle

So I was able to merge Zoho and Moodle in a snap. I’m just thinking to myself, "Self (same guy), if we can just grab that embed code whilst not making the page public…"  After all, the content I’m posting is designed to be by subscription. Maybe the Zoho team can answer that one.

Can’t wait to give Zoho Creator a try. Registrations. Expense Trackers. Sweet!
