The Conversations You Want to Have

As your company/business ventures into the blogosphere or social network arena, remember:

It’s Not About the Message You Want to Deliver,
It’s About the Conversations You Want to Have.

Be the conversationalist you want your customer to be.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

That’s a great quote, Mike. I’ll totally be using it in a client meeting this afternoon – with full credit to you, of course! Looks like we’re on the Drake panel together next week. Looking forward to it.

    This is a great quote.

I agree. I am seriously trying to have conversations with my blog readers. I want to help them with gifts. I am having fun creating the conversation. It is bringing out the the creative side of me.

I’m working with a group of professional develoment trainers this afternoon. This quote has just become one of my key powerpoint slides.

I am in total agreement with the others. It certainly is a great quote. Simple yet effective. It reminds us that communication is not a one-way thing. Thank you very much for that thought.

What superb wisdom Mike! Short, direct and simple, like most worthwhile statements.
If we are not involved in active, effective dialogue with our prospects and customers, how can we expect to sell them anything?

    I would rather say:
It’s Not About the Message You Want to Deliver,
It’s About the Conversations Your Customers Want to Have.

    Hi Mike
I liked the quote too – but I was interested in Uwe’s point – the conversations your customers want to have.
Are customers now looking for or expecting conversations? Is there a risk that those of us who can see the potential of social media are getting ahead of where customers are at?

The hardest part of this quote is going to get my clients to take it on board and break away from tradition!

  • http://www.cre8buzz.com Antman

I like the quote, and like what John Beckley had to say. The hardest part is executing. Knowing what to do is easier than knowing HOW to do it.

Thanks for the props and the conversation. Even the building of thought here (thanks Uwe). Not so sure we’re ahead of the consumer (even tho we too are they). Consumers/fans often are ahead because they don’t have the constraints (real or imagined) that companies might.
Still, if we wear our consumer hat (again, we are they when we step from behind the counter), we’re more likely to have the conversations we want to have (we being consumers – which agrees with Uwe’s point)
The beauty of John’s thought is this: be the conversationilst you want your clients to be…they’ll follow. If not, lead those willing to follow.
