Enough Hollow Weening

Zombie
The past month has been filled with contemplative thought about how small businesses, associations, organizations and academicianists (why not?) are approaching (fleeing?) blogging and all things social.

I’ve come to this conclusion. Many are void of imagination and supposition, aka hollow-weening. Maybe they think this Web 2.0 stuff is silly.

But there are also many eager to engage in the conversation — and those have and will continue to receive my attention.

Moving forward, I’ll change some of the focal points of this site.  As I’ve thought, crafted, white-and-wipe boarded ideas, I’ve recognized a few voids (aside from the aforementioned hollow-weening).

Maybe we can fill some of these voids, recognize (create?) others, and continue to explore and discover as we connect and converse.

Ready?

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

There are many(yes….even us “academicianists”)excited and ready to connect with the universe! Looking forward to learning more,COACH!

Hey CHIEF, maybe as there are astronomists (the watcher) and astronauts (the doer), there may acamadecianists and academiciologists. If so, you’d be the ladder:-) Keep on climbin’

    Hey Mike!
How are ya? Much better I hope.
Interesting question but rather than spout my opinion how about this tack?
A business forum I’m on (probably the UK’s busiest and certainly one of the best) http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/
Daily there are questions about should a company start up a blog and what benefit will it be, the importance yada yada.
Basically you have the early adopters (the techies ;) yup you are one) and then the technophobic (the late adopters). It is still early days yet, unless you know something that I should???
I know that we don’t make maximum usage of our blog, but we are a very small company and unfortunately stretched to the max most of the time so unfortunately our blog does not get the attention that it deserves but hey one day, one day.
    Take care
    Rich

In looking at the relative small percentages of SMBs that believe in blogging, I’d submit that there is always a relative small percentage…of high-performance companies…regardless of industry or size.
As for the SMBs role models in technology adoption, you should get a chuckle out of this response I got from Roberto (aka Roboto) at American Airlines (I’d sent a link to my blog post about their horrible service at JFK)
    October 31, 2007
    Dear Ms. Schmidt:
We have received your email, however, because of company online security procedures,
we do not engage in researching online blogs. However, your perspective has been
noted. Ms. Schmidt, thank you for your interest.
    Sincerely,
    Roberto Silva

    American Airlines
How he could know my “perspective” is a mystery to me since they don’t read “online blogs” Stay tuned, I’ll be blogging more about this!
And, here’s the link to my blog post about AA: http://www.maryschmidt.com/2007/10/31/service-snafu-youre-overweight/

As usual, you’ve hit it on the head. It was inevitable a little blowback would arise on the whole web 2.0, social networks, open-conversation movement. And it was inevitable it would be ‘led’ by people who never understood it, felt threatened by it, dug their heels in against it.
    Good post.
    Happy T-day.
