Afraid of Technology?

ReclinerI have no idea how one of these things works, but I use it often (especially on weekends). Frankly, I don’t want to know how it works, only that it does work – and that it’s easy to use.

I don’t want to see the schematic drawings or code that it took to build it.

But here’s the rub — just because I don’t understand the technology or mechanics of it, doesn’t mean I don’t use it. In fact, I use it because it’s so easy and so comfortable.

Are you sure you were not thinking about me when you composed the post? I completely agree with you. I don’t care how pieces of technology work. Whether it is the computer, cell phone, iPOD, laptop, television antenna, or hand mixer. The technology behind it is beyond me. I want the item to work. I am not going to Loew’s and try and fix something in my house. I will call a person who knows how to fix it and get it done. Then back to enjoying it. I don’t know how a microwave works but I do know how to keep it spotless.

    Hi Mike
    What a great analogy, thanks.
Sorry I’ve not said hello for a while – I’ve been on holiday.
I hope you are making good use of the chair as part of your recovery plan :)

This is the typical blind spot of technology developers/engineers. And, then they get frustrated with us civilans ‘cuz we’re so dense (yep, but we’re the ones with the wallet.)

Me too! Me too! Me too! I am so not a geek … it’s the end results that I love not the process. The easier it is to use … the more likely I am to try it.
