It’s good to be bad. (In a hospital gown!)

One of the things I loved about being the dad of a baby is that you could dress them funny and take pictures.  Imagine my delight then, when I realized you can do the same thing with friends in the hospital!

Mike’s been in official hospital attire since they checked him in.  I thought the outfit could use a little accessorizing.  And a doo rag seemed just the ticket.

Mike also says this covers him on the Face Behind the Blog meme!

Here’s an update:

07/01/07 midnight or so CST:  Mike is feeling a little better but still in quite a bit of pain.  His kidneys are still not behaving but some of the tests are showing some improvements.  There’s no answer as to what’s going on as of yet.  More tests and results from the testing done over the last couple days is what’s on the docket for tomorrow and Monday.

He’s incredibly grateful for all the prayers and well wishes.   Just a reminder — he’s asking that  you not send flowers et al (see his suggestion about where to send them) and he’s just not up to holding up his end of the conversation yet, so please sit tight and he’ll let us know when he’s ready for calls, e-mails and visitors.

I’ll post another update in the next day or so.

07/01/07 5:14 CST: Mike got a great report from the doctors today.  His kidneys are on the mend and he’s "out of the woods" in terms of being in crisis.  Many of the tests they did towards the end of the week are coming back with good numbers. There are probably a couple more days of testing and some milestones he needs to achieve before they’re going to check him out, but he’s on the upswing.

Drew, your first paragraph made me laugh out loud – great write-up!!
And Mike, dear Mike – the doo-rag suits you. You may want to consider taking up riding motorcycles, as even in a hospital gown I suddenly do not want to make you mad. :) Thinking of you daily, and wishing you all the best.

    Great pic made me smile!
    Thanks Drew.
Oh and Mike I hope that the new look is going to be the official blog photo, so much better ;)
    Take care good sir.

    Mike,
Hang in there – I know that after about 3-4 days it begins to feel like an eternity in a hospital. Talk those nurses into letting you into your favorite pj’s or hang out clothes – it will feel a little more like home. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.

I think when you’re done with the doorag you’d be smashing in a big RED bow (that’s what I’ve always worn when made to wear hospital gowns!). Sending lots of love and prayers.

Drew – Tell Mike we want to see some leg next time (I also like CK’s big red bow idea)! Give him a big hug for me next time you visit!

    >>>he’s on the upswing<<<
That’s the sound of prayers being answered! Thanks Drew!

The scary thing about hospital gowns in the air vents in the back — talk about poor design! A few days in the hospital are an eternity, I know a thing or two about that. But this is about you, Mike. Lots of positive vibes your way.
    Drew — nice touch!

I don’t get it — they charge enough for a hospital room, they should have free wifi.
Feeling sick is bad enough without Internet withdrawal!
    Get home soon Mike!

Hmmm…While this is an interesting look, I can’t wait to see you back in street clothes!

    Thanks for the updates, Drew.
Mike, this is a great time to try to scam some hospital scrubs….there hanging around in some staff closet somewhere…get a nurse on the case to find you something comfortable to wear!
