Who’s Coaching Who?

A re-inactment of a 12th century blog coaching session?

Hat tip and bear hug to Steve Farber. I’ve got to go change clothes now.

Yo Steve. Takes patience and genius to recognize it!

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    Mike and Steve,
So memorable — I love it! What a great perspective on the acceptance of ‘new technology’… recently I heard about some teenagers trying to use a rotary dial phone. They were really stumped — they kept punching the holes in the dial and nothing was happening… They thought the phone was broken.

LOL! What a fun little break for my morning!

That’s terrific!! Franke I have a similar example – when my daughter was 3 in 1996 I bought her a used kids’ turntable that could play 45 rpm records, and some “oldies” 45′s that she was hearing on the radio. Her babysitter, at the time about 12, came down to see us one day and my daughter was trying to show her how to work the turntable, but she couldn’t quite place the needle just so to make it play. The babysitter came out of her room with one of the records and asked me, “What is this? Steph’s trying to show me how it makes music, but I don’t get it.” I was shocked, til I realized that all *her* music had most likely been on CD. She had no idea what records were! Great post, Mike, “who’s the coach” indeed! ~ Janet

Thanks for sharing that. It makes me wonder what people will think of our blog topics in hundred years or more. What seems so complicated to us, will be mundane and obvious to them! That was hilarious.

Okay, look, Mike. I don’t mean to nitpick or anything, but it should be “who’s coaching WHOM?”

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

    > Franke:-) That’s funny. An advocado green phone perhaps?
    > Art:-) Glad it helped
    > Janet – Which is why I call ‘garage sales’ a nostalgia bazaar
    > Terrence – Right! When we go telpathic, these keyboards and digits will be silly, hmm?:-)
    > C’mon Steve…that’s 12th century speak:-)
As soon as I wrote it, I had the conversation in my own mind…or does the WHOM stand for Working Hard On Manuscript?

That’s funny. I actually feel as if I’ve had a few of those conversations. :)

    When a picture’s worth a thousand words

I came across some great examples this week of using pictures to tell your story. Brian Clark at Copyblogger reminds us that strong visuals – like the fish in Finding Nemo – are worth an hour’s worth of words Liz

GREAT POST! I was laughing out loud. It reminds me of the fact that we can all suffer from complete mental break down when something is new to us. It is amazing how the obvious, seems completely foreign when we have never seen it before. We over analyze, fear of screwing it up, etc. all creep in and render us useless idiots relying on some expert who is asking him or herself; “how the hell did this person even get up this morning with out hurting themselves”.
    Great job!!!

I once had an employee call me in tears because they had reached the end of their mouse pad but needed to get move farther down the page. This video gave reminded me of that moment. It’s all so darn easy when you know the answers.

    >Cam – These types of conversations will probably never cease … and I’ve been on both sides (sometimes in the same discussion:-))
    >Antman – You’re so right about the fear and over-analyzing getting us into trouble when facing something new. Without the fear, we’d learn quicker, yes?
    >Amy – Love the “reached the end of their mouse pad” – gotta borrow that one someday
