Faces on a Blog: Walk-in or Drive-Through?

One of the first (and best) things I did when I first hung out my shingle was to invest a lot of time at Panera. It became my office.

Eventually, friendships with other Panera-ians were forged. After seeing each other daily, we’d get to know each other. Small talk became big talk. Acquaintances became friendships. Some think I know everyone that comes in (I’m tryin’).

Peeps In a similar manner, MyBlogLog and other social network toolsets allow you to build such a community in and around your blog efforts.

A few new business blogs I work with hesitate to implement these widgets, but I encourage them to do so without hesitation. At the very least, open an account and "show up" as you visit other sites.

It’s much like the drive-through at Starbucks (Panera doesn’t do drive-through). If you walk-in for your daily coffee, people will get used to seeing you…they’ll get to know you – maybe even miss you when you don’t show.  If you drive-throughthey’ll not even know you exist.

So…are you a walk-in blogger          or a drive-through blogger?

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    Hi Mike!
I love having mybloglog on my blog. I don’t usually go for a lot of sidebar gadgets, but I just LOVE seeing people’s faces on the sidebar. It just makes my day when I recognize people that have visited my blog!

    Hi Mike,
I find it timely that I just pulled up this page, right after walking out of Panera. :)
I try to be a walk-in blogger, and I love having faces on my blog. I’ve also got MyBlogLog faces on people’s comments. It makes it more fun!
On another note, I worked at Taco Bell during high school. I made food for the drive-through line every day in the summer. For the regulars, we knew exactly what they would order, just by hearing their voice. But of course, I wouldn’t know them from Adam on the street. And nobody else knew them at all.
    Take care,
    Andrew

This is a great tool to build traffic and takes the “body length” conversation to more of an arms length. It can’t hurt your brand to use these social networking tools, in fact, I believe it puts a human face (literally) to your brand and the audience attracted to your blog.
