Ready to Start Blogging? Try Before You Buy

I often get asked about the best way to start blogging. Some are willing to hire, some are just looking for a point in the right direction.

As mentioned previously, I’ve found it best for someone to test out blogging first – try before you buy – after that, you can hire me to help take the blogging efforts to the next level. Two reasons why I do this:

  1. We can make sure that your blogging is going to be sustainable action. The last thing we want to do is launch a blog and have it sit quiet. Bad for your business.
  2. We can make sure you’re coachable. The next-to-last thing we want to do is have you pay for my services (coaching) – and then plug your ears. Bad for my business.

Here are a few posts that will get you started on solid footing:

Notice that the "listening" part of blogging is two-thirds of the homework? There’s more than one reason for that.

One key to the trial period is to develop the habit and practice of blog posting and blog reading. Because we don’t make the blog public for 30 days, enter any content you want…but post an entry 4-7 times each week.

Of course, you could be like the business person I met the other day:

"I want better search engine results and to build my business nationally, but I don’t want to have to do that much work." Ah yes, the secret desire of the average business person.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

The 30 day trial is a great idea. Blogging is a lot of work, but participating is not as hard as many novices may think.
Here is a great example to add to your collection -

I wish more companies would follow their lead.

Char – thanks for sharing Prime’s link. Really, participation begins long before blogging, right? Blogging is simply another form/tool for engagement.

Blogging is a lot of work. But it’s work that certianly can pay off if you’re clear about why you’re blogging and create a clear strategy.
For anyone reading this…I would listen to what Mike Sansone has to say. He really gets it.
