Quotenote_2 "If you want a formula for failure, it is this: Ignore the public." – Lawrence Welk

In this week’s edition of the Des Moines Business Record, the cover story talks about how smart companies are starting to listen to the blogosphere.

If you find someone with a complaint against you, your company or your work -blog or no blog – listen with empathy and an open-mind.

Kent Blumberg shares five steps on handling negative criticism. Ignoring feedback isn’t one of those.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    Mike,
I was browsing your blog and read the quote citing Lawrence Welk, whose name I hadn’t heard for a long time. Then I looked at where you’re from and understood; as he was so popular in that part of the country. Being away from the great northland (northern Minnesota) for over 20 years now, it was fun hearing that name again and it immediately brought back memories.

Agreed. I was very impressed by the quick response from Scott Westerman of Mediacom (discussed by the Business Record Article) on my critisism of his organization on our company blog. He’s listening and I noticed!!

    >Gary:-) Yep, I still remember sitting on my grandmother’s living room floor, reading or coloring and plugging my ears when the Welk show came on. Funny thing is, now I find myself watching it on IPTV Saturday nights. Go figure.
    >Kent, you bet. Thanks for the solid pointers.
    >Cory, Mediacom is proving the understand at least the voice of the people, and maybe the power of the people.

I don’t think there is any reality in this quote “If you want a formula for failure, it is this: Ignore the public.” – Lawrence Welk, as if we started caring of the public so much in our every action, then we would not be able to show our creative freedon in our every step towards the success.
