Technorati as a Research Tool

Our workshop this morning covered a lot of ground – and the landscape was dominated by Technorati.

One of the largest hurdles (crutches?) to businesses engaging in blogging and other social media is time. Tehcnorati is a time-saving research tool and a way to lower that hurdle.

A few items we discussed:

  • Search Once and Subscribe to searches on Technorati
       - Search via Blog Posts, Tags or Blogs
       - In Tag searches, look for Blogs, Images, Videos or People
  • Find a blog post to link out to (Blog Posting Mantra #4), searching Technorati with Tag search
  • Find a blog to community with Technorati Blog Directory search
  • Use the Popular page to find a subject matter that’s hot. This will help battle blogger’s block.  Use similes and metaphors to bring things around to your business.
  • Make use of Watchlists (Rich Brooks has a video tutorial on Watchlists)
  • Use the Technorati Mini as a browsing assistant

Lifehacker has two great posts on using Technorati as a research tool:

  1. Technophilia: Ten Ways to Search with Technorati
  2. Technophilia: Ten (more) Ways…

Other posts worth checking out:

So what’s your next step? Go create a Technorati account. Create a Watchlist or four. Practice search and subscribe. It’s all free.

If you use Technorati as a research tool, what are some techniques you find helpful?
