MyBlogLog Community Meme

Andy Beard has a great idea in building awareness in the community and social aspect of blogging with a MyBlogLog meme.

The rules are simple:

1. You should be a member of the community you recommend.
2. You should subscribe to their feed.

Frankly, I think this is a must anyway. How could you be a member of the community without regularly reading their content?

I didn’t know that The RSS Blog had become a member of MyBlogLog. Now I do. I’ve long been a reader of the blog, so I joined Randy’s MBL community.

The process is also simple: Two links: First link to the blog site, Second to the community page.

Starting with Andy and his choices, then I’ll add mine:

Andy Beard | Andy Beard’s Community
Andy Beal
| Marketing Pilgrim Community
Graywolf’s SEO Blog | Graywolfs SEO Community
A VC  | Fred’s A VC Community
Converstations | Mike Sansone’s Community (thanks Andy)
The RSS Blog | The RSS Blog and KBCafe

Black in Business | Jim Walton’s Community
Social Caster | Bruce Prokopet’s Community
Shared NeedLes | Jamie Parks’ Community
Brain Based Biz | Robyn McMaster’s Community
Branding Strategy Insider | Derrick Daye’s Community

I’d still like to see MyBlogLog come up with a way I can grab a single feed for my communities, maybe even share that feed.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    Mike,
Great new meme…they seem to be everywhere!
Here’s a thought/suggestion. Why don’t you do a post that describes how someone can grab the code from a post like this and add it to a post on their site.
I’m sure there are many a techno-stunted blogger (like me) who could use the easy reference, as opposed to having to re-discover it every time I want to do it.

Well, one could either copy and paste from a post or view the source and then copy and paste. Another choice would be to retype and insert hyperlinks.
I agree that providing code for buttons and plugins is a must, but presenting it for text links could be more of an interruption to reading than an aide to spreading.
Still, your question is a good one. If we really want something to spread, we need to make it easily spread-able right? Something to ponder.

This is a great idea. Yes, folks have been joining MyBlogLog Wheel in the Sky community and adding me as their contacts, and I’ve been checking out their sites and adding them as contacts and joining their communities as well, if they even have a blog that they author. (Seems some folks on MyBlogLog don’t.)
Plus, folks who want to have favored me on Technorati, and I’ve done the same for them so I can keep up with people’s most recent posts.
I’ve also email subscribed or RSS subscribed to a bunch of these blogs…but I’m amazed by many people who have no easy way to subscribe on their blogs.
Also, what’s up with Feedburner some days when you try and email subscribe to a person’s blog and you type in the correct “I’m not a splogger” letters over and over but they keep making you do it over and over and never send you the confirm email? Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks mucho gusto! Paula Neal Mooney

I wasn’t suggesting that you add the information to this post. My thought was more along the lines of — because of your authority as a blog coach — you could take many non-tech bloggers under your wing and help them navigate the basics.
When we know a lot, we forget that most do not. For example, I didn’t know that cutting and pasting would pick up the text and the code.
    But now I do.

    Great idea.
Projects that allow bloggers to discover each other, interact and create conversations are always positive (no need in telling you that, I know).

    Howdy neighbor!

Being a part of a community means knowing your neighbors. Or at least it should. Lots of us have joined the BlogLog community and it’s time to meet the neighbors! Here’s how it works. The list below started with Andy

Mike I’m so very amazed you chose to include me for your meme additions since you know so many others in the blogosphere. :-) You do me proud.
I’m one of those without the RSS Feed and that isn’t on purpose. Somehow I glitched it’s ability to work as it should in the HTML code and though I spent hours on it awhile back, looking in “Help” and asking questions I was not able to resolve the issue. I now see I must try to get it up and running properly so your very kind addition gives me the push. :-)
    Thanks so very much, Mike.

“I’d still like to see MyBlogLog come up with a way I can grab a single feed for my communities, maybe even share that feed.”
There’s plenty of simple RSS scrapers out there that lets you combine feeds you like with options on how to distribute.

What a simple and great idea.

Thanks for giving this meme a good launch Mike.
I am thinking of a way in PHP to help memes propagate. What I normally do his highlight the links in Firefox, and “view selected source” – then just copy and paste the code.
Jeremy I am sure it is going to happen. They have the data and it won’t take too long for them to start doing something with it.
You might want to add something to the discussion over on Nicks blog.

    >Hi Paula. I like the reciprocity you offer (not an expectation, but you give back generously). Good show. I’ve not run into that problem with FeedBurner – maybe it comes after several simultaneous subscriptions?
    >Drew, Glad to assist. It would be good to add something that folks could grab without interrupting the flow of content – so good idea:-)
    >Daniel, Yes – Discovery is part of the ‘jazz’ of blogging I think.
    >Robyn, if you need an assist with the feed thing, let me know. We’re community:-)
    >Hi Dariana:-) Thanks for writing about Pandora. A great discovery for me.
    >Hi Jeremy. You’re right of course, and I often use FeedYes for static sites. Which tool do you favor? A single feed could be a good addition to an already great service. We’ll put it on the wish list:-)
    >Fraser, thanks. Simple on this side, yes:-) Hopefully simple on the backend too.
    >Andy, Your idea was a wonderful community builder because you used links to both the blog and the community. And thanks for the link to Nicks site.
