Fanning the Flame to Go Viral

Interesting scene at a Breakfast Group I talked with today.

I have a single sheet summary handout when I speak to a group. This morning, I placed a pile of these in the middle of the table. I also put a stack of business cards beside these summaries.

Within minutes, the sheets went viral as they were immediately passed around without a word from me (thanks Trip!). The business cards needed a nudge as I asked someone to pass them around.

When we launch a project and want it to go viral (a video, a calendar, a blog, etc.) we need to always ask ourselves these questions:

  • How can we make it easy for the audience to particpate and share
  • How will we acknowledge their particpation, spotlighting the sneezers
  • What’s our nudge if it doesn’t happen as planned

This talk was just an introduction to blogs and how to subscribe to feeds. As promised, here are some of the tools I shared with the group:

Could you pass this post around the table please?

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

About that trends page from Google, they sure keep those search numbers close to their chest. But without any real stats I don’t really see much use for this tool. Google was made famous by making information available, I guess it’s going to be a while before they let people see behind the curtain.

Hi Alex. The Google Trends page is one I shared as a comparison on ways to search for information. I think the Google Trends data can assist in putting together an informational picture, I’d never recommend 100% reliance on a single reference point.
Have you recently posted or elaborated on why this tool isn’t as strong as it could be? I’d enjoy hearing more from your perspective.
