Dig Deep to Find Gems

Story goes that a guy wins a dead-end gold mine in a poker game. He works at his mine for a few weeks and finds just a few nuggets (signal) amidst a bunch of rock (noise).

It’s taking too much time. He’s tired of digging. He trades in the mine for a new color TV (okay, I’m tweaking the story a bit). The new owner of the mine takes a pick, digs a bit deeper…and uncovers riches never imagined.

Sometimes you find a post or a link, and inside your brain or gut you’re cheering to yourself (or out loud): "I love how the blogosphere affects my thinking!"

But don’t stop with just the post. Follow the links, read the comments and find some gems:

David Armano’s post, Does Social Media Participation Affect What You Do?
A portion of Valeria Maltoni’s comment:

"The collective becomes personal and the personal is adopted collectively. Having developed a business network through a social medium online for almost 7 years, I can tell how much the work, the interactions, the lessons changed me — and for the better."

Here’s the link that got David thinking: Is Blogging Killing Planning?

Don’t stop digging…sometimes you’ll find more gold one click away or at the bottom of the scroll bar.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Yes, I fully agree. It’s how I’m finding some great resources in the blogosphere. Having come from the ‘static web world’ somewhat recently, I’m amazed at the power of blogging – especially for business – over traditional websites. The openness and sharing between bloggers continues to blow me away.

ConverStations: Dig Deep to Find Gems

Don’t just read a blog post and stop there. Follow the links in the blog post, then follow the links in the links in the blog post etc. You never know what you may come across. Similar to how I discovered this post.

    >Hi Meikah! I’m glad you’re digging, because you often share the gems you find. Isn’t it fantastic how we find and become friends this way?
    >Hi Valeria, I’m heading over to your post in just a bit (I won’t call first – it’s a bit early). The amazement is shared ya know.
    >Hi Dawud! Right, right! Folks I work with, even those skeptical at the start, are amazed at the personal and business relationships that develop (much as Meikah describes above). Look at you and I – we’d have probably never met otherwise. Stay contagious!
