WII-FM Losing Its Signal

We’re finding out that what once was believed to be "Best Practices" in a company, may have simply been "Practices As Best As We Can – With What We Have to Work With."

Knowledge Sharing is becoming a key strategy in successful business circles…but some still ignore it in favor of the tired tried and soon-to-be-retired "What’s In It For Me" syndrome.

The WII-FM way is losing its signal, being replaced by WEB-XM channels or We Each Benefit Across Multiple channels. By combining different data points, perspectives, talents and disciplines – we can build off of each others ideas and leverage what is created to benefit each participant.

This is already happening around the blogosphere. Communities of creative thinkers are building off each others ideas – some resulting in collaborative projects, others in new businesses.

In the book, The Wisdom Network by Steve Benton and Melissa Giovagnoli, there are steps outlined showing business leaders how to clear the hurdles and knock down barriers successfully so they can tap into the expertise around them.

Collaboration is a real buzz word these days. There are some that still want to know the WII-FM before moving ahead and sharing ideas. If they don’t get the WEB-XM signal, they’ll soon be listening to static.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Are you sure about that, Mike? I hesitate to say that WEB-XM will replace WIIFM. Rather, I think WIIFM will be the base, perhaps WEB-XM will be the next layer, then WIIFTO (What’s In It For The Organization) will be the layer above that. But that’s my first take. Let’s see, what’s in it for me if I read the book. Oh yea, I might learn something new that will help me bring about the change I need to create in my organization. Thanks for the tip.
    Great blog. I’ll be reading…

Good points, Glenn. But yeah, I’m sure. I’m seeing it in business meetings and hearing it from those that have subscribed to WEB-XM (I dig and agree with the WIIFTO, tho).
Those that ask the WII-FM – or even try to direct conversations that way – are not being asked back to the party. And their absence is noticed with an increase in creativity and productivity.
It may not be fast, but without WEB-XM – or WIIFTO – the WII-FM crowd will need to find ways to act alone.
