Blogging With TypePad: Easy as Email

Blogging is as easy as email – in fact, it’s like sending an email to the world. Because it’s so easy to publish content on a blog, you could say you’re sending an email to your site.

Here’s what the TypePad Post screen looks like:

Looks clean and easy, right? But let’s break it down just a bit.

To write a post, log into your TypePad account and go to Weblogs, then Post. Most of this navigation appears near the top of your screen.

Ready to post on your blog?

There are three sections to consider: Title (your headline); Category (you can choose multiple categories); Post Body. I often suggest that new bloggers write their post, then go back to write the Title and choose a Category. As you become better at writing headlines, you can write that first.  See A Blog Posting Mantra for more on that subject.

The buttons above the Post Body screen is where you can styleize your posts:

To insert a hyperlink, look for the button that looks like a chain:   A small gray box will pop-up allowing you to point to another web page. Always make sure the "http://" is in the URL (it’s inserted by default).

You’re almost ready to publish. Near the bottom of the TypePad screen, you can choose when to publish your posts: Draft, Publish On (schedule for future publication), or Post Now. You can Preview your post, or Save your post. If you choose Publish Now, clicking save will publish your post…now.

Why don’t you give it a go?  Typepad offers a great Knowledge Base to help guide you through your initial blogging.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Not to disparage in anyway, because both have their uses, but I switched from blogger to typepad because I really liked the professional look to the typepad templates. The interface that you have above is extremely intuitive and requires less back and forth through the dashboard to get stuff done. Love the widget-like customization too.
    BTW, love the converstations.

Thanks for the comment, JG. I agree. Blogger is also quite easy to use — however for business, I always suggest Typepad.

Nicely laid out blog, Mike – After only just becoming familiar with blogger, you have me thinking of migrating to typepad.
What’s been your experience with people who attempt this? What kind of pitfalls should I expect? I’ve built a nice circle of contacts. Am I at risk of losing the connections I’ve made by changing url?
I’m curious too about BlogTalk radio and podcasting – you’ve a nice comprehensive spot laid out here.
