Catching up on reading blogs this morning, I noticed how Fred Wilson at A VC has his FeedFlare in the post footer rather than within the post.
I decided I could either call a web developer ($1500) or do it myself ($15). Guess which I chose.
Here’s the bottom of a post before the tweak:
Here it is after the tweak:
I also changed the phrase "Technorati Tags:" to read "What Others Are Saying about:" because I believe tagging is as valuable to the reader as the publisher. We’ll see if the tags get more clicks.
Here’s how I did it (if you’re in TypePad – you’ll need to be using Advanced Templates):
- In the ‘entry-list’ and ‘entry-individual’ modules, I changed the p class="entry-footer" to a div class="entry-footer"
- I moved the tech-tags code and the feed flare script below the postfooter code
- Close the div
- In the tech-tags module, I modified the MTTrans phrase to say, "What Others Are Saying…"
Thanks for the example, Fred. (Fred also has a theme song for his site. I wonder…what would be a good theme song for ConverStations?)
