Let’s Add Some Navigation…Ouch

Tackled

I’ve been wanting to add navigation here for some time. After starting to build the blogroll page (and getting ready to add a bookshelf page), I thought I’d tackle it. I should have worn pads for this workout.

First, I grabbed some buttons and javascript from WebPage Maker. Then, Jimmy the Geek put me in daylight with this great post on adding top navigation to TypePad. Then I fumbled.

While modifying the images and loading them into Typepad, I must have done something. Having never done much with JavaScript, I was about to punt. Then I remembered a post from Mary Schmidt, where she asks:

"Do you not have time ‘to learn all that techy stuff?’ If that’s your thought – sorry – no Web biz for you."

I tightened up my cleats (and the code) and now we’re in business. There’s an empty spot waiting for the bookshelf to be built. Anyone have any particle board?

Aside: I’m looking for a calendar tool that I can brand. I love Planzo, but haven’t figured out how to brand it. Your input will be embraced (not tackled).

Sideline: Yep…the football talk is due to my thinking about a fantasy football draft tonight. Gotta download a cheat sheet – ’cause I have no clue. Maybe I’ll check in with Dr. U.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Mike, you are brave to take that on. The thing about technology is that you have to do it their way or no way — could it always has a narrow margin for errors. Good luck — I hope it offers more than you expected — you deserve it!

    Mike,
Glad I gave you incentive to keep going! But, you’re braver than I am – I don’t go down to the code level unless absolutely forced to…my old brain’s grooves has enough difficulty keeping up at the app and GUI level.
    Good luck!

Congrats to you! But…can’t we have our web guys do this stuff for us??? There’s not enough time in the day for me to learn to write code.

Thanks Ellen. Mistakes are tuition, so I don’t mind a fumble now and again.
Mary, it’s funny how that post stuck in my craw (cranium?) for so long…you posted that in December. Thanks for the nudge.
Christine – I agree…but sometimes they charge too much time or hours. I’m not a code guy at all – though I guess that’s changing.
