July 1st: BlogTipping

Blogtipping is a collaborative effort bringing audiences to their authors with praise – and a suggestion. Props to Easton Ellsworth for coming up with idea a few months back. It continues to grow. So let’s go BlogTipping…

BlogTip #1:In The Garage
Authors: The nGen Works Team

  • Love the Comment Count at the top of each post. A lively discussion will elicit a full read and follow-up comment. I’ll look to do that someday soon.
  • Good use of favicons that fit the theme of the site.
  • Fantastic helps and tricks.

TIP: Don’t worry about taking over the world, just keep changing one "w" at a time. Follow Fiesty Joey’s lead.

BlogTip #2: Passion, People, Principles
Author: David Maister

  • David involves and engages his audience, by seeking advice, replying to comments quickly and with a permanent link to "Suggest a Topic" at the bottom of the site.
  • He varies his length of posts – just like a conversation. Sometimes he offers a quick thought, sometimes he has a lot to say – either way, we always get great info.
  • If I don’t have time to read the blog or an article, David also offers podcasts I can download and take on the road. Choices.

TIP: As I read longer articles in a feed aggregator, highlighting points with a blod font will help me scan – and compel me to read the whole.

BlogTip #3: Ramblings From a Glass Half Full
Author: Starbucker

  • Inspiring
  • Personable
  • Real

TIP: Panera
*Note: I could say a lot about this wonderful site, but his words will tell a better story than mine.

I had planned all week to BlogTip the gang at Aldo Coffee, but TypePad Featured Blog beat me to it. I’ll refrain unil another time.

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Thanks for the “tip” Mike and your kind words – thanks to your Panera link I’ve already found one about 7 miles away; I take it you think I’d like the place? Anything in particular you’d recommend?

Mike, Thanks for including us in your BlogTipping. Also I’m pleased you noticed the comments at the top of the posts and some of the design flourishes. We spent a lot time designing the blog and making usability decisions. It’s nice to know our hard work paid off.

Starbucker – As an unofficial Panera evangelist (they call me “Brother Bread), I hust thought I’d send you an invite. The coffee’s good, the bread is better – but the community is fantastic! You’d make it even better:-)

Hi Joey, The comment count at the top is a favorite feature. I talk about it often offline. Funny how a simple little tiem like that can make a difference. What are your thoughts? Does it make a difference in response?

OK Mike, now I HAVE to check this place out – I’ll let you know what I find there. Thanks!

Mike, I was without Internet access on Blogtipping Day itself and so this post and many others have lain in my NewsGator clippings folder for nearly two weeks now. Sorry I didn’t respond sooner! I see that you’ve carried on the proud tradition of blogtipping very nicely. I’m off now to see the first two blogs (I didn’t know about them before)!
