Is Your Blog Radar Up?

As I wrote last month, Technorati is Not Just an Ego Tool. It can be used for networking, prospecting, recruiting and research. By using it smartly by subscribing to feeds from your search, it can be a knowledge builder and time saver.

Here’s one way to use Technorati to build up knowledge smartly:

I randomly choose a site from my feeds, check their profile on Technorati and pick a Tag. Today, I started with Ron Shewchuk’s For Your Approval and chose Human Resources.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Set the Timer: 45-60 minutes max. I do this exercise once or twice a week. That’s it. Don’t get lost on a blogging safari.
  • Search Once and Subscribe (or at least watch). Among the many folders in my aggregator, one is setup for new sites and searches. Within a week, I either move them to their proper folder or delete the feed.

Today, I ran across Internal Awakening by Jon Anderson, The Engaging Brand by Anna Farmery and Success Connections by Lora Andrianse. I stumbled upon Lora’s site quite by accident, but a look at her reading list hooked me right away.

Working with several HR, ESOP and Internal Communication pros, it’s important for me to know what’s going on in their world.  I can point them to interesting posts and potential networking possibilities.

You can do the same with your favorite blogs and industries.

I just started working with someone in the medical profession. I’ll be keeping an eye out for good blogs that match their specialty. It won’t take me long to search and subscribe – and I’ll be Relationship Building Intentionally (RBI).

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Thanks Troy. I was going to wait for the redesign to put it up, but the train was already in motion:-)

  • Jon Anderson

    Mike,
Thanks for the link. I think it is increasingly important to stay aware of blogs by using technorati. It’s a great resource and more people should use it to their advantage.

Thanks for the comment, John – and your great work on Internal Awakening. You’re right, with so many ways to use T’rati, every business should be able to use it profitably.
