BlogHer: Where the Women Bloggers Are

I’m not at the BlogHer conference, but I’m enjoying following along on several live-blogging and review posts (from both the guys and the gals).

Every so often, I hear the question, "Where are all the women bloggers?"  I don’t get it – many are among my favorite reads (in random order):

Amy Gahran; Susan Getgood; Beth Kanter; Lisa Haneberg; Debbie Weil; Toby Bloomberg; Ann Handley; Lorelle VanFossen; Liz Strauss; Marianne Richmond; Diane Ensey; Jennifer Rice; Kami Huyse; Lauren Vargas; Valorie Luther; Andrea Weckerle; Tara Hunt; Kathy Sierra; Maria Palma; Nancy White; Rachel Cunliffe; Kirsten Osolind; Ellen Weber; Evelyn Rodriguez; Ann Michael; Shilpa Unalkat; Heather Dority; Tammi Lenski; Pam Blackstone; Heidi Miller; Lynn Terry; Rosa Say; Jodee Bock; Delaney Kirk; Sue Pelletier; Christine Kane; Laura Ricci; Wendy Maynard; Holly Buchanan; Michelle Miller, Mary Schmidt; Lori Grant; Louise Fletcher; Meryl Evans

I probably missed a few, but the folks in this list help make me smarter. Thank you!

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

Wow, what an honor. To be among a list of so many women I admire. Gee, I’m humbled.
There are brilliant women blogging. Just because we aren’t front page news nor show up for the BlogHer conference, doesn’t mean we aren’t out there. We’re here. And here to stay. ;-)

  • Kathy Sierra

    What Lorelle said : )
Thanks for including me in this list as well. And I have to say that I agree with “I don’t get it” when people ask “where are the women bloggers”. We’re everywhere… and sometimes we’re just “bloggers who happen to be women”, not “women bloggers” any more than my co-author is a “male blogger”. He’s a tech blogger.
    Cheers and thanks again Mike!
    -Kathy

Lorelle – Thanks for your comment, but more so for sharing your voice. Though most of my work deals with SixApart products, whenever someone asks about WP stuff – we walk (type?) over to your place. Big Thanks!

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Kathy – Thanks also. Great point about “bloggers who happen to be women” – we’re people. But as I said in a recent post, some folks need labels when they don’t get it.
    Stay contagious,
    “A red-headed blogger”

Thanks, Mike! Maybe we can get you to BlogHer next yearm hint hint?

    Mike,
What a treat to be included on a list with so many names I virtually visit daily! And back at you…you make me smarter, too.

  • http://www.brainbasedbusiness.com Ellen Weber

Mike, I am humbled to be on your list of bloggers and I love your take on the fact that we are humans:-) Your posts also emulate that extravagant humanity. Did you know they can now see physiological and biological differences between men’s and women’s brains and the results are exciting. All the more reason to enjoy the best of both genders as you do so well! Thanks for the shot of Serotonin, today Mike. Stay blessed!

Hey Mike, thanks for helping me find you. I had not discovered your blog yet and it was perfect timing as I have been doing a lot of pondering and thinking aloud about blog community formations. Now I peek around your blog and see a lot to stimulate my thinking. By linking to the bunch of us up there, you created another connection in this lovely network of blogs.
    THANKS!!!

  • I Can’t Say That!

    Women Bloggers Are Everywhere

I found myself in good company today. Mike Sansone, in his post BlogHer: Where the Women Bloggers Are, mentioned that hes puzzled by the question, where are all the women bloggers?
Ive watched the question considered on oth…

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Thanks for the hint, Amy. I just may do that (my daughter and her family are in Morgan Hill). Thanks for the great updates from the event.

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Tammy, thanks for trackback and letting me know I add something. I hadn’t planned on such great comments – you folks are making my hair turn red.

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Ellen, By being able to see the differences, we can better understand our similarities too, yes? Thanks for your consistent brain builders.

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Nancy, thanks for the comment. What endurance! I’ve been following your work since I was at AOL – and you continually lead the way in building community. Stay contagious!

    Mike,
YEA! Thank you. I love the women you’ve got there. It’s a honor to be with them. They’re all alive and outstanding thinkers who make things happen every day.
No wonder your blog is so special. They say behind every man . . . [she said with a giant grin]

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

    Thanks Marianne, appreciate your voice!
Ditto Liz. I’ll finish your sentence? …is a community of Successful Bloghers :-)

  • http://www.mpdailyfix.com Ann Handley

Thanks for including me, Mike, with this list of women I admire. When I put together the agenda for my BlogHim conference, you’ll definitely be the keynote.

Hi Mike — Thanks so much for including me within this list of such amazing women. It’s nice to be listed within such great company… particularly when I feel I can’t seem to find enough time to blog lately. Thanks for your support and interest in my blog. I love your blog as well. Keep up the great work! :)

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Hi Ann, I’ll bring this post as part of the preso, yes?:-)
Hi Heather – thanks for your comment. In my opinion, you belong on any list of top-notch bloggers. I dig the redesign BTW, Stay contagious offline and on.

  • http://www.meryl.net/blog/ Meryl K. Evans

+5 / ditto to all of the above. I’m honored to be on such a list. Thank you, Mike. We appreciate your valuable insights into online conversations, too!

  • Andrea Weckerle

Mike, what can I say that the others haven’t already said? A sincere thanks for including me on this impressive list… many of the women I already read, others are new to me, so I appreciate the “introduction” to them.

  • http://www.christinekane.com Christine Kane

Hey you! I was performing at a festival yesterday so I didn’t catch this. You must have a MASSIVE following cuz I got 3100 visits to my site yesterday and you were my only link! So, thanks friend. What a great group of women…

  • http://weblensblogs.blogspot.com Pam Blackstone

Hey Mike, Thanks for the mention in your list of women bloggers. It’s an honour to be included along with so many other people I read and admire. I agree with Lorelle. I don’t think of myself as a “woman blogger” … just as a person who loves to blog. And as many here have pointed out, there are tons of us out here, adding our 2 cents to the global cyberchatter.

What It Means to Be A BlogHer

Mike Sansome of Converstations addresses the question that comes up from time to time, Where are all the women bloggers? He lists some of his favorites and I was deeply flattered to be included in this list of women bloggers

  • http://www.viaspire.com Heather Dority

Thanks Mike — You are the first to comment on our redesign. (It’s definitely a work in progress!) FYI – We just updated our blogroll. ;) Thanks again!

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Thanks Meryl & Andrea, your comment means a lot.
Christine – WOW, thanks for that news. I’ll try to do the same when you come through Des Moines live and in person.
Thanks Pam, I agree – and I’m glad it’s been reinforced in the comments. It’s about people – not genders, races, classes, etc.
Heather, we’re all in beta (along withour blogs), yes?

  • http://overtonecomm.blogspot.com/ Kami Huyse

Hey Mike; It was a busy day here in San Antonio and I just got around to catching up on my blogging buddies ;-) I have already discovered a couple of new blogs that I just subscribed to in your list. How fun (and flattering) to be included. Of course, I already know what a great resource your blog can be and I value our blog connection. As for BlogHer, I think I need to get there next year if at all possible.

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Hi Kami, no worries on timing – I hadn’t anticpated these responses, actually. Besides, the wonderful thing about blogging is that we know where to find each other:-)
Did I hear that BlogHer is in Chicago next year? If so, I’ll plan on attendance.

  • http://www.sayleadershipcoaching.com/talkingstory/ Rosa Say

    Aloha Mike,
How wonderful to be included in such a stellar cast of authors – mahalo nui loa, thank you very much.
While I love the generous nod, and am very grateful for your kindness, like you and many commenting here, I don’t think about gender connections with blogging at all. It’s all about the writing, the community building and new ways to communicate, and the exceptional learning offered.
Men and women alike have starring roles individually, and we are blessed to be their appreciative audience, starting right here on your aloha-filled ConverStations.
Ho’ohana, keep writing as you so magnificently do! With much aloha,
    Rosa

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Well said, Rosa. Though I hadn’t anticipated such a response, neither am I surprised by it.
The wonderful learning and sharing opportunities that blogging can bring to open hearts and minds is humbling.
Thanks for sharing – and leading others to do likewise.

  • http://www.alistreview.com Diane Ensey

You have my thanks as well – both for the flattering inclusion to your list, as well as for a list of blogs that I just had to check out.

  • http://www.viaspire.com Heather Dority

So, true Mike. I’m still getting used to “public beta acceptance.” It’s the perfectionist and old school roots of software development in me! Thanks for reminding me that being in beta (publically) is not only acceptable, but necessary in this “quick to market” world we live in. Blog on! :)

  • http://12commanonymous.typepad.com/ Lauren Vargas

I am honored to be on your list. I was extremely disappointed I could not attend the BlogHer conference, but I will make an appearence next time!
Next week will be a busy week for new content…stay tuned!
    Again, thank you.

  • http://www.converstations.com Mike Sansone

Diane…Making the list has motivated me to make a seperate page of “Blogs I Read” because there are many that aren’t on the roll to the right – but should be. Thanks for your great work.
Heather – Understandable…it still takes me a bit to embrace the “70% to launch” that seems to be in practice.
Lauren – Tuned in here:-) You ask some of the best and most thought-pricking questions arouned. Thanks for doing so.
