Blog Whisper: FeedFlare for Business
Congrats! You've started a business blog. And you're using FeedBurner. Very nice work. What call-to-action does your Personal FeedFlare direct your readers to? You don't use FeedFlare? At all?
You'll find two related posts below (How to Begin using FeedFlare and How to Create a Personal FeedFlare), but if you're using FeedBurner (as all of my customers do), you should implement a Personal FeedFlare to...well...to get more business.
Understanding that a growing number of your audience is reading content through a feed aggregator such as Bloglines or GreatNews, they don't ever see the bells, whistles and adverts on your site. A Personal FeedFlare gives you the opportunity to do more than just read your content. It gives them an opportunity to do business with you.
Your Personal FeedFlare appears at the bottom of each feed item. I use it to invite readers to register for one of my Blogging Workshops :
Here are some other uses of Personal FeedFlares:
- Mike Wagner at OwnYourBrand uses it to allow his readers to book his services as a speaker (I helped here):
- Corante's Innovation Hub has one of the best uses of FeedFlare. Just one flare (though I'm confident it will be updated soon):
- Dr. Delaney Kirk says "Take Back Your Classroom" and points a flare to her book (and here):
- As does Timothy Johnson with his book, "Race Through the Forest" (here too):
- Tom Vander Well at QAQnA points his readers to the web page that details how his company works (yep):
- Seth Mazow at Interplast uses a FeedFlare to point readers to the Interplast Donations page (Seth and Marshall share the credit here):
- Fred Wilson at A VC points readers to Take a Survey:
- Richard MacManus at Read/Write Web does a nice job of pointing to his other blog:
If you want more book sales, software orders, white paper downloads, speaking engagements, subscribers or feedback, use a Personal FeedFlare.
I'm surprised that more blogs/feeds don't use this feature. It's not hard. In fact, send me a Panera Gift Card along with where you want your Personal FeedFlare to point, and I'll write it for you (it takes about six minutes).
