Comments: From Conversation to Conversion

Benjamin Yoskovitz offers a great example of how by engaging in a conversation, a business might convert a prospect into a customer.

Ben recently took part in the conversation Quotes n Notes:Curiosity. I had seen his name at Blogger Stories, Successful Blog, Buzzoodle: Buzz Marketing and Marketing Roadmaps, but I hadn’t delved too deep into his IGotNewsForYou site or blog.

Here’s the business blog lesson: Ben added to the discussion with relevant thoughts. He didn’t talk about his site or offering, he was simply becoming part of the community.

Here’s the business result: I immediately drew a liking to Ben’s style and thoughts. Since I liked Ben, I bought into his product – and have used it with great fun. Ben’s conversation led to a conversion. Will it happen every time out? Nope. But I probably wouldn’t have taken action without Ben extending his voice and reach.

Here’s a screen shot of what I sent to my pal, Mike Wagner (click image to enlarge):

Find Your Social Media ROI

I hear it from a lot of business owners: “Where is the ROI with all this Social Media?“ If this is a question you ask yourself, maybe we should work together a bit more. We can work together solo, or via a professional learning community. Find and increase your ROI. There is a “there” there.

    Precisely.
Excellent example of Sideways Marketing….or what Mack Collier calls marketing via “joining the community,” or Hugh Macleod calls “indirect marketing.” Bravo.

I have tried this out and it is great! I think the idea was perfect. I am kind of a humurous guy and love to lighten things up a bit and being able to send something like this out to friends or co-workers is kind of a light and fun…
I always try to cheer people up when I can. I have an account and plan on using it when I can.

“Sideways Marketing” – I like that term. I’ve always considered myself a bit of a sideways kind of guy, and just recently at open mike night at successful-blog.com I thought that Paul Giamatti could play me in a movie…
It’s definitely “indirect marketing” but something about “sideways marketing” sounds a bit more fun…
